Afghan militants stole 600 goats and kidnapped a shepherd in the Chitral district of Pakistan, reports The News, of Pakistan, citing unnamed officials.
The militants crossed the Pak-Afghan border from the Afghan province of Nuristan to grab the goats and the shepherd. The goats belonged to a local religious leader and the shepherd was his nephew.
The News reports such thefts have occurred before, and that several people who crossed into Afghanistan in search of their goats and had not returned. Pakistani security forces have been sent to the border areas to rescue the villagers.
Many a blue joke has been made about the Taliban and goats, and I cannot let this news story pass without making at least one.
Q: What happened to the Taliban goat thief?
