Thanks for your service! Have a cupcake.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey, waves from a life-size, cupcake tank comprised of approximately 5,000 cupcakes and at least 200 pounds of camouflage fondant.

If you’re posted in the Washington, D.C., Bethesda, Md., New York, Boston or Los Angeles areas, legendary cupcakery Georgetown Cupcake is offering free treats to service members, veterans and their families this Friday, June 14.

And if you’re in the Washington, D.C., area, the Sgt. Maj. of the Army Raymond Chandler will stop by the original Georgetown Cupcake around 3:40 pm to mix it up with visitors.

The offer is in celebration of the Army’s 238th birthday, for which the bakery designed and executed the lovely cupcake tank you see Gen. Dempsey operating above.

They filmed the whole thing for an episode of DC Cupcakes, Georgetown Cupcake’s very own, very popular reality show, which airs June 14 as well.

While Georgetown Cupcake’s confectionery superiority is controversial, the ladies who own it bake and ship 10,000 cupcakes to deployed troops each year, so they’re all squared away.

Visit their website here for a list of locations. FYI, their special Friday  menu offerings include chocolate hazelnut, chocolate PB chip, coconut and lava fudge.

  1. That’s great that they are doing that. I’m concerned that this might be a joint ethics violation if the SMA is endorsing this business in uniform.
